Recently it was announced that the long running British police drama The Bill has been axed and over 26 series will be ending after 26 years with the last episode being filmed on June 14th, with the last episode airing in September.
Now, this is what I have found out. Over the past two years, The Bill has won three awards for the best continuing soap or drama from the Royal Television Society, The Writers Guild of Britain and The British Academy of Film and Television Arts. So with its continued success which and legion of fans it is understandable that news was met with an outcry and petitions to save the show where started on the internet. One such campaign being on don’t kill the bill on Facebook
In a press statement, TalkbackTHAMES CEO Lorraine Heggessey commented, “We are incredibly proud of what the show has achieved. It is a credit to everyone who has worked on The Bill, that the series will be signing out on a creative and editorial high. With both critical and industry-wide acclaim and a loyal fan base who have supported the show throughout.”
