Staring Josh Lucas, Rachael Taylor and Koko the dog

Rated 5/6
Based on the legendary true story of the Red Dog who united a disparate local community while roaming the Australian outback in search of his long lost master.
Red Dog is the type of movie that may not go to the international success that other Australian films such as The Castle or Muriel’s wedding. The cinematography was brilliant highlighting an area of Australia I have only really seen in movies. There was a few brilliant performances in Red Dog of particular note was Rachael Taylor.
This is a heart-warming movie, which everybody should take the time to watch. Granted most ‘animal’ can come across as being overly hooky and might seem to tug on the heartstrings, but that is what they are supposed to. There was a sequence in Red Dog that in a lot of ways reminded me of Lasse Hallstrom’s Hachiko: A Dog’s Story so you might want to have a couple of tissues handy when you go to see Red Dog.
