Canberra independent Taxi Trial Anounced

ACT Attorney General Simon Corbell recently announced that early next year that there will be a trial where twenty-five taxis will be allowed to operate independently without any affiliations to the two Canberra taxi networks.
“A number of taxi operators made submissions to the review stating that taxi networks charged excessive fees but provided limited services in return, and the Government is keen to see if this trial will be successful in reducing costs for operators and enabling them to offer more innovative and improved services,” Mr Corbell said.
It should be noted that Taxis in the ACT receive around 50% of their hirings from network bookings.
“Only taxi operators who are experienced and can demonstrate a good track record of compliance with taxi legislation and service standards will be eligible to participate in the trial,” Mr Corbell said.
