Here is something interesting for everybody to think about, in a couple of days when the Holiday madness finally reaches its peak on Christmas Day.
According to recent research conducted by both Optus and Telstra that an increasing number of people will be sending their Christmas wishes via social media and SMS.
Clare Gill, General Manager, Government and Corporate Affairs of Optus commented that on Christmas Day, Optus is expecting customers to send more than 65 million , while Telstra Director of Consumer Marketing, Maryanne Tsiatsias commented that we’re predicting more than 99 million text messages to be sent, almost four million more than last year’s Christmas period.
The telecommunication companies are expecting that some of the most popular international call destinations will included UK, New Zealand, the United States and Vietnam.
The Telco’s research also showed:
- That people over the age of 55 will make a phone call to chat with family and friends on Christmas day.
- Around 1 in 2 Gen Ys will send their Christmas wishes via social media.
- 52 per cent of female Facebook® users plan to post and share festive related photos compared to 39 per cent of men.
