An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native become caught in the crossfire in the war between Russia and Georgia.
I really fell in love with the cinematography it almost seems a shame that war came to such a beautiful country. Though 5 Days of War may not have had a broad cinematic release the fact that it was cast with the likes of Andy Garcia and Val Kilmer to support the likes of Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Richard Coyle.
It was really good to see Emmanuelle Chriqui in movie like this one. Granted she was love interest of the movie, but 5 Days of War is a far cry from the romantic comedies that I have grown accustomed to seeing her in. Though I may not entirely familiar with Rupert Friend’s work it fairly clear that he has some potential. Something I have always wondered is there an appropriate length of time that needs to elapse between historical events and the release of a movie dealing with the historical events without having to consider it as a ‘propaganda’ movie.
Without any significant lapse between the events and the release of the movie, you really have to wonder if there is any agenda by the filmmakers and if you can rely on the source material at face value. However, I suppose the duty of films like this is to make us want to ask questions about what really happened.
