The epic story of the Chinese girl-warrior, Mulan, who fights to defend her father.
In watching this particular version of Mulan you need to know that you are entering a Disney free zone. That means you will not have to endure any talking dragons or any upbeat musical numbers and it goes in several directions that Disney probably would not be willing to go with one of their movies. One of the more interesting things that I find about Asian cinema is how action is portrayed in their movies particularly in some of the historical epics. There was no theatrical flair adopted with the action sequences in Mulan as opposed to movie like Goemon.
The Ballad of Mulan has been retold countless times in many different mediums including television series and movies so there is something for everybody. Considering that my understanding of the Mandarin language is non-existent I found that with the subtitles I may have failed to grasp the tone at times in some of the actor’s performances yet I still found them to be completely engaging.
One of the more interesting points that was made was about responsibility and no matter how much you might want to you cannot really run away from it no matter how badly you may want to once that you have accepted it.
