Raised on the streets of turn-of-the century London, orphaned Peter and his pals survive by their fearless wits as cunning young pickpockets. Now, they’ve been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook, to snatch a priceless, some believe, magical treasure which transports them to another world. Neverland is a realm of white jungles and legendary mysteries of eternal youth, where unknown friends and enemies snatched from time welcome the new travelers with both excitement and trepidation.
Neverland was a brilliant interpretation of the Peter Pan tale. The SyFy channel generally has a chequered record with some of its movie endeavours. Neverland is a prequel to the Peter Pan tale and I was highly impressed with “Oliver Twist” slant Director and Writer Nick Willing brought to the table as well as the explanation as to why nobody ages in Neverland. It is good to see that Bob Hoskins reprised his role as Smee, which he previously had in Steven Spielberg’s 1991 movie Hook. Rhys Ifans was brilliant as Hook. I was also very impressed by Q’orianka Kilcher’s performance.
Parents might need to be aware that Neverland might not be suitable for some younger children considering that one of Peter’s friends actually dies about a third of the way through the movie.
