To promote Harmony Day a group of federal politicians pulled on their football boots and donned orange t-shirts for the second annual Pollies v Professionals soccer match. ‘Football brings Australians from all walks of life together to share in a common passion and strive for a common goal,’ Senator Lundy said.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Senator Kate Lundy, led the team of football-playing politicians including Minister Stephen Conroy, Graham Perrett, Bert van Manen and Michael McCormack giving the politicians a hand where members of W-League Premier team, Canberra United – Jenni Bisset, Grace Gill, Ellie Brush and Nicole Sykes.
Leading the professionals’ team was SBS presenter and former Socceroo Craig Foster, with SBS football personalities Les Murray and David Bashee and former Socceroos Kimon Taliadoris, David Zdrilic and Francis Awaritefe.
‘Unfortunately the politicians can’t claim all the credit for the result, our team performance was definitely given a boost with the help of some players from Canberra United.’ Senator Lundy commented.
In the end the match ended in an 8-8 draw.
