‘Before the Storm’, a new iPhone game that helps students and families better prepare for natural disasters was launched today by Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Management Nicola Roxon and Federal Member for Latrobe Laura Smyth.
“Big storms can be frightening for kids but learning what to do when a natural disaster strikes will be as easy as pulling out your iPhone and playing ‘Before the Storm’,” Minister Roxon said.
The game introduces concepts of recovery after disaster events, including cleaning up safely after a storm and repairing items that have been damaged.
“Educational resources such as this one developed by the Government’s Australian Emergency Management Institute, help students to learn more about disaster resilience and build a safer future. Whilst navigating through the game, primary school students can learn the importance of households being prepared for a storm,” Ms Smyth said.
