During the Boer war three Lieutenants Morant, Handcock & Witton are court martialled for executing Boer prisoners and a German missionary. Morant, Handcock & Witton are used as scapegoats by the English General Staff in hopes to bring about a peace conference.
This is a classic Australian film dealing with a page of history that is still wrought with controversy. There where brilliant performances by all of the lead cast. These men (Handcock Morant and Witton) where put into a situation where there was no rulebook and they where judged to have made the wrong decision and where used as scapegoats. The English where indeed naive to think that they would behave like ‘Gentlemen’.
