After being passed over for promotion Lieutenant Commander Tom Dodge is given a seemingly impossible task take the U.S.S Stingray a diesel submarine into a war game against the US nuclear fleet. Dodge’s slim chances are made even worse when he is given a crew full of misfits and screw-ups.

Down Periscope isn’t anything special, there is nothing about it that could be considered as “artistic” film making. All it really is a good piece of harmless fun with a helping of slapstick gags that will garner the obligatory guilty snicker at the expense of Rob Schneider .
