An unorthodox Irish policeman with a confrontational personality is teamed up with an uptight FBI agent to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.
Compared to any other ‘Crime’ movie that I have seen in recent years the Guard is a brilliant light-hearted comedy. I firmly believe that if the Guard had of been released in any other country the filmmakers would have taken a completely different turn with this movie. If the Guard had not been filmed in Ireland, the role of Sergeant Gerry Boyle portrayed by Brendan Gleeson would have been completely different. I would hazard a guess that there would have been an attempt to make the role of Sergeant Gerry Boyle either a shoot first ask question latter police officer or a police officer with a secret drug habit.
