It’s 1987 and Danielle, the high school ‘Dirty Girl’, is running away. With her is chubby, gay Clarke, a bag of flour called Joan and a Walkman full of glorious ’80s tunes.
In the beginning I was not entirely sure what to make of this one. Initially I thought it was going to be one of those ‘don’t judge a book by its a cover’. But in the end it seemed to be more about coming to terms and overcoming your own situation.
Jeremy Dozier did give a good performance though personally I felt that he came across as being a little to clichéd. Granted, there are people as camp as Dozier’s portrayal of the character of Clarke but I felt that Dozier might need to have dialled his performance back a little because he seemed to be flirting with coming across as John Inman’s portrayal of Mr. Humphries from the iconic television series, are you being served?
