Ray, an ex-con, is starting a new life looking to stay out of trouble. One evening, on Ray’s watch, the nightclub he works for is robbed and the owner’s son is shot dead. As his criminal past is exposed Ray hunts for the person responsible for this crime in an effort to clear his own name. Ray must get to the bottom of this as both the mob and cops start to close in on him as their target suspect.
There is a nice visual look to the way that House of the rising sun was shot but it needed a bigger budget and a better leading man to successfully capture the race time feel of the movie. It was good to see that Dave Bautista gave a performance that could be actually considered as good. Though that was kind of easy considering the last time that I saw him in a movie it was the unneeded third scorpion king movie.
Lately I have found myself actually appreciating the acting talents of Craig Fairbrass. I would put this down to the fact that House of the Rising Sun was the second movie in about three days featuring him. Now before you hunt me down and attempt to lynch me I am not saying that he is going to win an Academy Award because he is probably not that talented. Nevertheless, Fairbrass has great gangster look without the real world experience of somebody like Danny Trejo.
