According to research released by NRMA animal related collisions had risen 12 per cent since the previous year and kangaroos top the list.
“They are often looking for food at sunrise and sunset and it’s during this time that an increased number of collisions occur.” NRMA Insurance Head of Research Robert McDonald said.
McDonald went on to explain that there was more than double the amount of animal related collisions in New South Wales than any other state in Australia and that although most animal collisions occur on country roads, city drivers should also be mindful when dogs and cats are near cars.
“Dogs are the second most likely animal to be hit and we also regularly see insurance claims from collisions with cats, wombats and cattle.” Mr. McDonald said.
