For those of you who don’t know I have a T6-T7 incomplete spinal cord injury. Now, why am I telling you all of this? Well there is something that I need to talk about.
On more than one occasion, complete strangers have thrust their help on to me while I have been out and about.
Now I would like to think that I am not a complete bitter and twisted bastard and I am not complaining about these random acts of kindness. To be honest because of these random acts of kindness I am certain that the world is not such a scary place after all. Even if there are fundamentalist terrorists out there who want to kill us.
These random acts of kindness can seem a little patronizing at times even if these random acts of kindness come from the best of intentions.
I can understand how it might how it might look like struggle to push a wheelchair up a hill, open a door, and get in or out of a car or a thousand other things that a disabled person might have to do in a given day.
So before your about to commit your next random act of kindness I want you to stop and ask the person you about to help a question using 5 magic words “ Do You Need any Help? ”
If your help is needed it will be accepted. But do not get offended if we say no. Because, sometimes we just have to get things done ourselves.
