McDonald’s Australia is calling on Macquarie Dictionary Publishers to include the popular abbreviation Macca’s to the online edition of their dictionary. Despite the fact that yes I do indeed eat Macdonald’s food I really don’t that giving such a notable distinction could be a good thing. Could it?
“The research findings have shown that Macca’s is Australia’s favourite brand nickname and that more than half of the population use the iconic ‘Australianism’. Knowing this, we think it’s time that Macquarie Dictionary Publishers added our moniker to their dictionary of Australian English.” McDonald’s Australia, Chief Marketing Officer, Mark Lollback said.
We will find out later this year if the bid is successful when the 2012 update is issued for the online edition of the Macquarie Australia dictionary is released.
