Mike, an experienced stripper, takes a younger performer called The Kid under his wing and schools him in the arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.
For the record, yes I did skip watching Magic Mike when it was originally released at the cinema, in retrospect the quality of the dance routines in the movie probably would not have made me feel uncomfortable if I caught session in a cinema filled mostly with women.
For the most part Magic Mike seemed to be a fun yet somewhat predictable movie (for the record the past three movies that I have seen staring Channing Tatum seemed to have been more miss then hit.) The oddest casting choice for the movie was wrestling icon Kevin Nash who was the least capable of all the dancers and had to wear a knee brace during filming. The fact that Nash was wearing a brace was a point that should have been raised in the plot.
