As an asteroid nears Earth, a man finds himself alone after his wife leaves in a panic. He decides to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. Accompanying him is a neighbor who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan.
Seeking a Friend for the end of the world is an overly sweet optimistic movie which is completely unlike most apocalyptic movies that I have seen which are generally big loud serious action movies. However, it should be noted that movies that are this sweet run the risk of sending you into a diabetic coma.
It is great that this Lorene Scafaria’s first time as a director, but it seems that she dropped the ball on this one particularly because she cast a comedian in the lead role of a movie when there seems to be observable sense of humour in the entire movie.
I would not consider myself to be overly familiar with Steve Carrell’s work and the little work of his that I have seen has not made me regard him as a leading man, it almost seems that he is incapable to play anything but himself.
