A younger and more reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out on a “unexpected journey” to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to reclaim a their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.

Pretty good movie. They take a bit of licence with the story but it mostly doesn’t hurt it. It could use a little less “Hey you know this is the prequel to lord of the rings” laced through it (eg galadriel and various other characters appearing that shouldn’t be in the story at all, the over emphasis of the ring and a few other scenes).

The 48fps is fantastic and really makes a massive difference to how well the 3d works. Quick action scenes are very clear and don’t devolve into the usual blur that occurs in other movies, but be sure to see the 3d version as the 2d is regular old 24fps.

On the whole I’d give it a 4/5
