Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.
I suppose I should have gone to the see this movie a few weeks ago. But considering all the movies that I watch alone, I feel that I can impart some small piece of wisdom, the truly great cinema experiences are not all about where you sit and what you eat when you visit your favorite cinema but the fact that sometimes you will spend time with people who are important in your life.
Yes, I have not read the book, but I have brought the paperback and after watching movie I have a fair idea what the next book I am going to read is. When I first saw the trailer for Gatsby, in a lot of ways the soundtrack reminded me of the ’06 movie Idlewild. Gatsby is a visually amazing movie, which you would expect from director Baz Luhrman a lot of care and attention went into the movie’s visual style from the opening credits to the finale.
I can’t help but wonder if Luhrman is a director who is out of his era or a man who is going to help bring back 50’s style spectaculars.
As brilliant Joel Edgerton and Tobey Maguire where in their roles, Leonardo DiCaprio is probably only a small handful of actors with the charm to be able to play the role of Gatsby.
