The ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds.
This is actually a pretty cool choice for your next family movie night, though keep in mind that the character of General Fallon might be a bit frightening for some younger kids, and there was what appeared to be an extreme ‘Disney’ approach to the violence.
Though this wouldn’t be considered to be a grand epic I kind of felt that to get the true impact of the giants and the kingdom’s castle you might need as big a screen as you can get, perhaps I should have seen this one at the local cinema.
The movie’s plot is a combination of the fairy tales Jack the Giant Killer and Jack and the Beanstalk. There was a brilliant cast and enjoyed both Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci’s performances. I really loved how the filmmakers in the end managed to blend what seemed to be fantasy into reality.
