As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.

On the face of it director Guillermo del Toro has delivered something that was visually pretty cool, like you would expect from most of his movies. Pacific Rim has kind of a simple plot, the best way to label this is as a “HUMANITY YEA!!” movie. What I mean without spoiling to much this is the kind of movie where humanity overcomes some sort of threat from beyond the stars. However, unlike most other movies conventional weapons from the world’s modern military were not used. Other reviewers have made that Pacific Rim has an example of the worst Australian accent in a movie. I would have to agree with them. Of the actors who played Chuck and Herc Hansen I thought that Max Martini’s Australian accent was the more questionable of the two because at times I thought that his accent seemed to slip and when it slipped I kept on being reminded about his character in the 2006 series The Unit.
