Asterix crosses the channel to help second-cousin Anticlimax face down Julius Caesar and invading Romans.

Believe it or not I actually have vague memories of being taken to see the original animated version when I was younger.
One of the main reasons that I love the live action Astérix and Obélix movies is that they seem to openly embrace the comic books that they have been adapted from making them across as a live action cartoon at times.
I also noticed a couple of subtle nods to other movies spread throughout the movie, though I am sure that I did notice them all. There was a particular joke that I enjoyed that referenced The Empire Strikes back.
The only major problem that I had with this was that dogmatix who is otherwise known as Idéfix did not accompany Astérix and Obélix on their mission.
