Riddick

Riddick

Director David Twohy
Staring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff & Matt Nable
Rated MA
Score 4/6

Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick’s past.

Considering that Vin Diesel acquired the rights to the Riddick franchise, has enabled the franchise to go back to its roots and it is a lot darker than the 2004 movie The Chronicles of Riddick. Though I can’t help but wonder that maybe they went a little too far back home considering the use of the Mud Demons as opposed to the Biorapters in Pitch Black. Though admittedly the Mud Demons where are necessary evil for the final act of the movie.
For those of you out there who are wondering, before I go to see this one do I need to have seen any of the other movies in the franchise before I see Riddick? Probably not, though I would recommend that you watch Pitch Black after watching Riddick considering that is set 10 years earlier.
It was also good to see an Australian cast in this movie former rugby league player turned actor Matt Nable, though Nable is only three years older than Cole Hauser who portrayed his son in Pitch Black.
