When a poor college student who cracks an online poker game goes bust, he arranges a face-to-face with the man he thinks cheated him, a sly offshore entrepreneur.
Okay, fans of the 1998 movie starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, Rounders might want to check this one out. However, even though Runner Runner is a poker movie, there really isn’t enough poker being played for this to ever be compared to Rounders. I kind of got the impression that this more of an investment type of thing (though yes investments are a form of gambling, as the movie points out).
The movie has enough star power to make Runner Runner watchable to the point that nobody will walk out of the cinema. Though I really would have like to have seen in the final act that Justin Timberlake’s character was faced with a situation where his life was at stake and not just his liberty.
Now with all that being said, if a personal friend asked me if they should go and see Runner Runner. I would say yes, just not at the cinema.
On a side note Hoyts if you are going to start selling pizzas at your cinemas, you’re going to have to offer a pizza that is a little more impressive than the ones you are selling right now.
