Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty along with 2011 Jayco Herald Sun Tour winner, Nathan Haas and 2013 Australian road race bronze medallist, Steele Von Hoff unveiled the new Tour route for the 2014 Jayco Herald Sun Tour and announced that the UCI World Tour team Garmin Sharp was the first international team confirmed for the race.
“I am pleased to announce today that UCI World Tour team Garmin Sharp is the first of the top international teams to be announced for the event’s 61st edition and will feature some strong local talent amongst their six man line-up.” Mr Delahunty commented.
Mr Delahunty went on to explain that the Jayco Herald Sun Tour will be held from the 5-9 February 2014. The action starts in Melbourne with a twilight 2.5 kilometre individual time trial prologue that begins at Birrarung Marr and travels along the Yarra River on Southbank Promenade to finish at Queensbridge Square. Delahunty added that the competitors will then test their mettle in stage races from Geelong to Ballarat, Ballarat to Bendigo, Michelton to Nagambie, with the final day at Arthur’s Seat on the Mornington Peninsula.
“I encourage cycling fans from around Australia and the world to come along and experience road cycling at its best when the action of the 2014 Jayco Herald Sun Tour starts next February,” Mr Delahunty said.
