Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend’s daughter. Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park.
I kind of ignored this one at the cinema, I vaguely remember the lead up to its release but don’t remember seeing any sessions times at my local cinema or even making plans to go see The Way Way Back at my local.
As everybody knows I watch way too many movies (The Movie Boards came to be at least in part to justify my rabid movie watching), now I’ll let you in on a little secret some of the movies are the ones that get emotional response when the credits roll, this was one of those movies. This might not be the type of movie for the entire family, it’s definitely a guy coming of age story (this is the first coming of age story I have watched for a while). I was impressed by Sam Rockwell’s performance and it was great to see Steve Carell in a more dramatic role.
