Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder recently announced the award of a construction contract to Cockram Constructions for the $25.9 million Grovedale station.
“The Victorian Coalition Government has invested $25.9 million to build a new station at Grovedale which will improve public transport access for important growth areas within the City of Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast region,” Mr Mulder said.
Mr Mulder explained that the station will be built on the north side of the existing Geelong-Warrnambool rail line, between Oakwood Crescent and Rossack Drive.
“The new station will open by the end of year, with around two trains an hour to operate in the peaks and additional capacity created once Regional Rail Link opens in 2016,” Mr Mulder said.
Member for South Barwon Andrew Katos said he was looking forward to the commencement of the Grovedale station that will see this major infrastructure project become a reality.
“The station will be staffed from first train to last and provide passenger amenities such as toilets and an air-conditioned waiting area,” Mr Katos said. “The new station at Grovedale will be fully accessible and feature a car park with 200 spaces, a bus interchange, taxi rank, CCTV, a V/Line booking office and facilities for cyclists.”
