At a recent Victorian Government Anzac Centenary Seminar Veterans’ Affairs Minister Hugh Delahunty announced that communities around Victoria will be eligible for up to a $100,000 grant to mark the Anzac Centenary (2014-2018).
“Through education, participation and commemorations, Victorians can better understand how World War I not only changed the face of Victoria but helped to shape the ‘Anzac’ legacy we know today.” Mr Delahunty commented.
Mr Delahunty explained that The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to educating and engaging with the broader community to remember the service and sacrifice of our World War I service men and women and all our war veterans thereafter who have helped shape our country to be what it is today. Delahunty added that he encouraged families and communities across Victoria to be part of commemorations by researching their own local World War I history and developing Anzac Centenary projects in the lead up to, and during, the Anzac Centenary.
“World War I had a defining impact on our State and the families whose loved ones served. Approximately 114,000 people from around Victoria enlisted in the Great War, of whom 19,000 paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Mr Delahunty said.
