Minister for Innovation Louise Asher today welcomed the start of principal photography and production of the feature film Sucker from Robyn Kershaw Productions and Jason Byrne Productions.
“Securing the pre-production, filming and post-production for Melbourne will see more than $4.7 million spent in Victoria which is important news for the economy,” Ms Asher said. “Shooting will take place in Melbourne and regional areas including Maldon, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Guildford and Malmsbury, creating 105 jobs for Victorians, including 50 in regional areas, and more than 400 extras.”
Ms Asher explained that Sucker is a film adaptation of the award winning stage play of the same name by Melbourne comedian, Lawrence Leung. It tells the story of Lawrence, an 18 year old Chinese Australian, who fails to get into Medicine and is banished to stay with his uncle for the summer. Ms Asher added that the film will see the big screen debut of John Luc as the lead character of Lawrence. Mr Luc is the YouTube character ‘mychonny’ – the number two you-tuber in Australasia along with English actor Timothy Spall.
