John, a casino waiter, is having a bad day. He has fallen innocently into a major crime, is targeted by the Thai mafia, and must evade a trained fighter and deadly assassin. In possession of a microchip with dangerous pedigree, Jack and his friends must try to stay alive and get the microchip to the proper authorities. When the assassin turns out to be a cop as well as a gangster, serious complications arise.
Should you make the decision to go looking for this at your local DVD store you need to remember that Thai Fighter is also known as The Microchip. Personally I believe that changing the title to Thai Fighter was not the best of decisions because The Microchip was a far better title for this movie. The practise of changing the title of a movie for different titles really needs to stop.
Considering that the Action Director and Martial Arts Choreographer of Ong Bak where involved with this, I think I my expectations for this movie might have been too high because it seemed that a lot of the action sequences seemed too have slower pace than I was expecting, that being said I was impressed with the creativeness in one of the sequences which involved the throwing of liquor bottles and lit matches. I was actually impressed with the Simon Kook’s performance as the villainous Captain Nat. The character had what could be described as a slasher movie villain feel considering the hero and his friends where not trained fighters, as you would usually expect with most movies like this.
The ending gave me the impression that there might be a sequel to this.
