Popularity of Local craft beers on the rise

According to recent research released by Roy Morgan the number of people who drink local craft beer is on the rise.
Angela Smith, Group Account Director – Consumer Products explained that the proportion of Australians aged 18 and over who consume local craft beer in any given four weeks has quietly increased over the last five years, from 3.5% (or 592,000 people) in the year to March 2010 to 5.7% or 1.04 million people as of March 2014.
“In positive news for the Australian beer market, the last five years have seen local craft beers fighting the increasing popularity of imported beers. However, what the local craft market has gained appears to be at the expense of the local mainstream beers.” Ms Smith commented
Ms Smith pointed out that the number of people who enjoy a local mainstream beer in an average four-week period has fallen from 6.1 million (36.7% of Australian adults) to 5.8 million (31.9%) over the same period.
