Score 5/6

After a collision with a shipping container at sea, a resourceful sailor finds himself, despite all efforts to the contrary, staring his mortality in the face.

I was not overly familiar with Director J.C Chandor’s work All is lost is the second movie that he has directed. After watching this movie I really think that I am going to have to check out Chandor’s 2011 movie margin call. As confining as the movie seemed on the yacht, the underwater footage that was shot for this movie was fascinating most of the underwater camera work I have recently seen movies has been in reefs so it was good to see that Chandor could make the deep water seem compelling .
Personally I find that as talented as he is the movies that Robert Redford stars in can be a little hit and miss when it comes to the quality of the plot. The last movie that he stared in that I was not overly impressed with was the 2012 movie The Company you Keep. In a lot of ways All is lost reminded me of last year’s movie Gravity because both characters went through a similar struggle to stay alive. The key difference between the two movies being that you can count the credited cast of All is lost on one hand.

It also should be noted history of international filmmaking that has only one actor and one writer/director but eleven executive producers as well as six other producers of varied titles.
