The untold story of how Southern California drag racers, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen combined with corporate giants to change the face of sports and ultimately became the most famous rivalry in racing history.
Even though I would not consider myself as a rev-head I have to admit that a sense of curiosity is what drew me to this movie. Considering the involvement of the National Hot-rod Association in the production of this movie I was under the impression that a degree of care and attention went into the telling of the story so that there would be a limited of “taking artistic license” with the story.
I really did not have that much of an emotional investment in this movie, the two lead actors Jesse Williams and Richard Blake where clearly cast for their looks and not their ability as actors because director Wayne Holloway who was directing his first feature clearly was unable to get anything resembling a decent performance out of the two. The most unforgivable sin of the entire movie was not the flat acting by Williams and Blake but the fact that the interior shots of them racing in their cars was clearly shot on a sound stage. Something that Filmmakers should have been mindful of during production.
