As a series of strange and violent events start happening, an alcoholic policeman realizes that he has been turned into a werewolf as part of a larger plan, so he investigates with the help of his partner and his friend.
Ok, I suppose in a way I was encouraged to buy this one partly because the shop assistant was eager to see this one based on how weird it looked. Which is very weird not only based on the name which generates images of 70’s horror movies but also the werewolf centrefold on the back of the DVD case.
In the past I have stated that I don’t watch a lot horror movies but I kind of got the feeling that Wolfcop was on the cusp of the horror genre because this came across as a low-budget super hero origin story and the horror movies that I tend to have a problem with are things like the Saw movies or Hobo with a shotgun (in short the type of movies where it’s better to watch them when you know it’s still light out).
I wasn’t very familiar with Lowell Dean but this was his third feature and I think that he delivered something that was out of left field, hitting on some of the supernatural clichés and the age old cliché of the police and doughnuts that was taken into the hero Lou Garou’s (one of the more interesting movie character names that I have seen in a while) Wolfcop form along with his fondness for beer. Considering Wolfcop’s low budget I thought that the visual effects that were used for the werewolf transformation any computer generated effects might have looked to hokey. And like all good superhero movies Wolfcop teased at a potential sequel.
