A self-obsessed young man makes his way to the party-to-end-all-parties on the last day on Earth, but ends up saving the life of a little girl searching for her father. Their relationship ultimately leads him on the path to redemption.
I remember seeing a preview for this one at the cinema, if I remember rightly I caught the preview for this one when I went to see Raid 2. However, I cannot say with any degree of certainty if I actually saw any session times for these final hours at the local cinemas, at all.
As a part of the release of these final hours there an interactive prequel released by Soap Creative, Roadshow Films and Screen Australia, which admittedly I have not really checked this out completely though some of the videos created for this where pretty interesting as I recall.
Now getting back to the review, this was the first time I have seen a movie directed by Zak Hilditch and I was actually pretty impressed by his movie. For the record if you are looking for a “Hooray for the technological power of humanity movie” look elsewhere. I found that Nathan Phillips’ character James reminded of a character Ben from one of my favourite movies, River Street. In the way that they both didn’t truly know what they wanted out of life until they were faced with a life changing decision.
As great as Phillips was, Angourie Rice, who was at the time starring in her first feature length movie at the time was brilliant.
In a strange way when the end credits rolled for These Final Hours, they really where an exclamation point to the whole movie. Usually there is some music playing to make you feel good about yourself and send you on your merry way. Not so with These Final Hours, I found that the silent running of the credits really hammered home that the world had indeed just ended.
