In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by the ruthless son of a powerful family, who lives on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign.
This is the first feature film that I have watched directed by The Wachowskis since the 2003 release of Matrix Revolutions. In my opinion Jupiter Ascending was not as bad some of the other reviews of it that I have read, though The Wachowskis are definitely are far from the greatness that they delivered with The Matrix back in 1999.
Granted like all good science fiction Jupiter Ascending raised an interesting question about the idea of reincarnation and the origin of humanity. The whole thing reincarnation revolved around the concept that if you provided for in your will your reincarnated self could inherit from you once they had proven the genetic prerequisites, and as expected with all science fiction movies there was also the mandatory cool gadgets. Such as the flying boots.
However, it seemed that something might have been lost in the execution of the movie considering that a lot of the actors seemed to be phoning their performances in. Most notably recent Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne. In my opinion two of the greatest actors to ever play cinematic villains are English actors Alan Rickman and Jason Isaacs. Redmayne has the potential to portray a memorable villain if he can only get the technique right.
