The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival kicks off this weekend with lots to suit all ages and interests, including events in keeping with this year’s Festival theme Conflict and Compassion, Minister for Planning Mick Gentleman said today.
“Take some time with family and friends to have some fun and adventure — and discover what’s so special about our city and region,” Minister Gentleman said. “Join a heritage bike ride in the beautiful Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve with a ranger who will tell you about the history of the area or join Mount Ainslie Ngunnawal custodians, Wally and Tyronne Bell, as they share tribal stories and stories of Aboriginal involvement in both of the World Wars.”
Mr. Gentleman pointed that some of the activities include the Mugga Mugga open day has guided tours of the heritage cottage and a chance to see classic cars, the Sing Australia Choir, the Jumptown Jammers dance troupe, a petting zoo and display of nursing memorabilia and colonial guns. He added that you can also enjoy a bush breakfast while hearing how Charles Robert Scrivener and his team of hard working surveyors and cartographers set out Canberra’s boundaries and put Walter Burley Griffin’s design into reality.
Mr. Gentleman also pointed out that you can also take a trip up to Goulburn, visit the historic homesteads of Garroorigang and Riversdale and discover some surprising Jewish history at the Old Goulburn Brewery.
The Festival continues until 26 April, 2015. For more event information, visit here
