Westpac and Australia Post today announced they had entered into a partnership to enable Westpac customers to access banking services at 3,200 participating Post Offices across Australia, including at more than 1,400 regional and rural locations.
Group Executive Westpac Retail & Business Banking, Jason Yetton, said he was pleased to be able to offer customers more choice in how they manage their day to day banking. “Australia Post is a great partner with extensive banking industry experience and a large retail footprint, so we are pleased to be able to give our customers another way to bank with us.” Mr. Yetton commented.
This new partnership follows a recent announcement that over the next two years the bank planned to invest almost $40 million in building new state-of-the art Bank Now branches in more than 20 locations across regional Australia, with further investment to follow giving customers access to the highest quality branch network, service and advice. The Australia Post agreement will give Westpac customers the ability to conduct traditional cash withdrawals, coin, cash and cheque deposits, in-store identity checks for new to Westpac customers and account balance enquiries and will complement the existing branch network.
“Banks continue to see significant take up of digital and online banking, however, some people prefer to undertake face-to-face transactions and this partnership is another way for them to do that, with a guaranteed level of service from an experienced transactional banking provider in Australia Post,” Mr. Yetton commented.
Mr. Yetton said the bank’s 250 regional branches were unchanged by the announcement which includes the transfer of the bank’s current third party agency service agreements with 147 regional providers to Australia Post to help ensure continuity of service in regional Australia. These agencies are add-ons to another business, typically a newsagency, chemist, video store or real estate agent. Christine Corbett, Executive General Manager – Postal Services, said the agreement was further evidence of the trust Westpac had placed in the services provided by Australia Post. “Australia Post continues to diversify and refine its offering to ensure a strong and vibrant future, and banking is a key component of the type of services we provide online and through our extensive network. We welcome this new agreement with Westpac which follows last month’s announcement that Westpac had become the first Australian bank to join MyPost Digital Mailbox” Ms Corbett commented.
