Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, today announced that over 108 playgrounds across the ACT will receive upgrades to improve both accessibility and safety.
“The improvements include replacing or repairing sections of the equipment including hand rails, scramble nets, fencing and other minor amendments. Not only will this improve safety, but we hope the works will make the equipment more fun for the children who use it,” Mr. Rattenbury said “The works are minor in nature but for safety reasons will require playgrounds to be closed for a few hours or up to a few days. The works have been programmed to coincide with the end of the school holidays to minimise inconvenience to the public.”
Mr. Rattenburry went on to explain that every year we also conduct larger works and upgrades to playgrounds. For example, works were recently completed at Corroboree Park in Ainslie, installing a range of fun new equipment for kids of all ages. The new equipment included a climbing unit with two slides, net and interactive elements, a double spring rocker, a new large net ‘basket’ and a ‘rodeo board.
