In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his daughter.
No matter how simplistic disaster movies like San Andreas are we are always going to be drawn to them, because sometime there is a need to tune out for two hours. I have a feeling that perhaps I should not have waited so long to go and watch this one and made the effort to watch this on the ‘xtremescreen’ at the friendly neighborhood cinema. Though in all honesty I’m not sure that even an ‘xtremescreen’ could have saved this movie going experience because San Andreas does kind of come across as a tamer disaster movie, despite a couple of cool set action pieces.
Dwayne Johnson clearly was the draw card for this and it was good to see that he had a couple of dramatic scenes before really getting his ‘Action Superstar’ on in the third act but I was kind of impressed with Alexandra Daddario’s performance. I’m sure all of you have noticed that filmmakers have troubles when creating ‘tough’ female roles in action movies and those same filmmakers have a tendency to fuck up those roles ‘tough’ female that they have created. Daddario’s character was treated just right with the kind of a character you would expect from the daughter of a rescue-chopper pilot who clearly taught what to do in an emergency.
