Stand-up comedian Manny Lewis, who connects with millions of fans but finds it hard to connect to one person. Manny struggles to overcome his sense of alienation and shyness, and a difficult relationship with his father, in a romantic and feel-good quest for the love of the quirky Maria.
I really don’t even vaguely remember seeing a preview for at the friendly neighborhood cinema, so don’t let the stigma of direct to DVD affect you when you see this one. Carl Barron might not be as a recognizable an Australian stand-up comedian as somebody like Adam Hills but he is still pretty funny, so if you get the chance check him out.
Barron who also wrote the movie with Director Anthony Mir gave us a pretty good story that isn’t overly sweet that some romantic comedies run the risk of being. The only real problem is that the ending is a little predictable but that can be chalked up to the fact Manny Lewis is a romantic comedy. But you would have to be a complete fool not to see the ending of a romantic comedy coming. As you would expect from an Australian movie shot in a capital city Mir took the opportunity to give us a few postcard shots of in and around Sydney and the fact that one or two familiar faces popped up.
