A thief works with his father and son to forge a painting by Monet and steal the original. Together, they plan the heist of their lives.
After watching this I can’t help but get the feeling that I have been somewhat selective in the choices that I have made with the Heist-Movies that I have watched. Most of the Heist-Movies that I have watched have been slick with dramatic twist thrown in at the end. Now, sure The Forger had the dramatic twist at the end, but it was anything but slick and I got the impression that the heist was almost secondary as the filmmakers seemed to concentrate on the rebuilding of the relationship between the father and son giving me the impression that just maybe the heist could have been dropped and the movie would still have been a watchable movie.
I was completely unfamiliar with director Phillip Martin’s work and after watching The Forger I’m not entirely sure if I will be making an effort to check out more of his work. Though as it turns out that The Forger is the third movie that I have seen that was written by Richard D’Ovidio.
