Minister for the Arts Joy Burch has welcomed the formation of a new partnership which sees the Horticultural Society of Canberra join with the Cultural Facilities Corporation to deliver the 2016 Lanyon Plant Fair.
“I am delighted that the popular Lanyon Plant Fair will now continue under the auspices of the Horticultural Society of Canberra in what will be its fifth year at Lanyon,” Ms Burch commented “It is fantastic too that so many of the skilled and passionate volunteers that worked with Open Gardens Australia to make the event so successful in past years will lend a hand to deliver the event in 2016.”
Ms Burch explained that the Lanyon Plant Fair began in 2012 as the Open Gardens Australia Plant Fair, however Open Gardens Australia wound up its operations Australia-wide last year. Burch went on to add that the Lanyon Plant Fair has become an important event for gardeners who are keen to find rare cold climate plants or to discuss the finer points of gardening in the region, as well as families looking to enjoy a fun day out in Lanyon’s historic grounds and take part in garden-themed activities.
“It is wonderful to see ACT Government agencies like the Cultural Facilities Corporation partner with community organizations like the Horticultural Society. Partnerships like this extend the skills of everyone involved and help deliver experiences, that are far richer, diverse and more relevant to our community than Government could ever hope to deliver alone,” Ms Burch commented.
The 2016 Lanyon Plant Fair will be held in the grounds of Lanyon Homestead during the Canberra Day long weekend. For More Information.
