Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
Okay, the pre credits sequence kicks off with Tom Cruise hanging from an Airbus A400M (yes it’s a slight spoiler, but then again pictures of the Cruise mid stunt made their way to various media outlets, so it was a given that scene was going to be in the movie) shows that Rogue Nation much like practically all of the spy thrillers kicked things off with a bang. Now Rouge Nation seems to follow the formula set out by the previous movies in the franchise, which would seem to suggest that there is not an awful lot of job security with the IMF. But, Rogue Nation is still a watchable movie in a popcorn munching sort of way. For those of you out there who are wondering Christopher McQuarrie has worked with Cruise back in 2012 on Jack Reacher and on a more personal note it turns out that this is the third movie I have watched that he has directed (I think I’m going to have to re-visit The Way of the Gun). Even though I’m not overly familiar with her work I was actually kind of impressed with Rebecca Ferguson’s performance as Ilsa, who was a really kick butt kind of character.
With the 5th installment of the Mission Impossible franchise currently in theaters thoughts about the future of the franchise are inevitable, especially if you take into consideration that Cruise’s tenure as Ethan Hunt is inching its way closer to Roger Moore’s mark of seven movies as James Bond. So I suppose we have to ask should Cruise do another two movies to equal Moore’s Mark? Should another actor take over the role of Ethan Hunt? Or who within the franchise should take over from Cruise if he leaves the franchise.
