The newly-regenerated Doctor takes on the Master on the turn of the millennium, 31 December 1999.
If you think about it this 1996 movie was an important stepping stone in bringing Doctor Who back to our television screens in 2005. Before I get too far into things I have question for all the Doctor Who fans out there, where were you when you first watched this movie, I sure know I do.
Considering the North American involvement in the production of the movie there was real danger of things going pear shaped. But of course that didn’t happen, the movie took the time to show respect to its source material with the transition from the seventh doctor Sylvester McCoy to the eighth doctor Paul McGann (who gave a decent enough performance even if it was met with a certain amount of controversy by the uber Doctor Who fans) and the use of theme music that vaguely sounded similar to the version of the theme music in the 80’s. Now sure in the movie the TARDIS had more of an industrial look then what I remember of the original television series but with the benefit of it being 19 years since the release of the movie I suppose the new look of the interior of the TARDIS was just another stepping stone to the next run of the series.
I have to admit that in the television series I never really thought that much of The Master as a villain so I really did not that much of Eric Roberts’ performance and I kind of thought he over did things especially during the final conflict between The Doctor and The Master.
