Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren has announced that the Andrews Labor Government will contribute financial support to the tune of $200,000 including a contribution of up to $50,000 from the Commonwealth Government so that the Falls Festival can take place this New Year’s Eve at Mount Duneed, north of Torquay.
Mr. Eren explained that the 2015 Festival was put at risk due to fires which have impacted Wye River and Separation Creek and expected warm temperatures to impact Victoria on New Year’s Eve. Eren added that The Falls Festival has been an iconic event since 1993 making a significant contribution to the region’s economy. “This is a vital and historic event for this region and it was important to see the show go on for the local economy and those attending.” Mr. Eren commented.
Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said that the financial support will help cover the costs of relocating the festival and the Government is currently working with the Surf Coast Council and the City of Greater Geelong to work through local planning and logistics.
“Mount Duneed just hosted a packed our Day on the Green with Elton John so I am pleased we have a great location for party goers on New Year’s Eve.” Ms Couzens commented.
“I want to thank the Falls Festival organisers for having the safety of the community front of mind and for working hard with our agencies to achieve this outcome.” Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville commented.
