Back To School Make Sure Kids are Organized on the Bus

With children heading back to school next week, parents are reminded to check the ACTION bus timetable to organise their children’s journey to and from school. Minister for Transport and Municipal Services, Meegan Fitzharris, said many children will be catching a bus for the first time, so it’s a great idea to get organised before the back-to-school madness hits.
“After a long holiday break, and with some children preparing to catch a bus to school for the first time, parents are encouraged to check the ACTION website for changes to school bus routes, timetables and fares to ensure their children are ready for the term ahead,” Minister Fitzharris commented.
Fitzharris explained that parents should also remember to check their child’s MyWay card balance and top up if required. MyWay cards can be topped up automatically using the handy autoload service, online, over the phone via the ACTION information line (13 17 10), or at any MyWay recharge agent. The Minister added that new MyWay cards can also be purchased online or at your nearest MyWay Recharge Agent. It is important to remember to go online and register your card to protect the balance if lost or stolen.
“Particularly for new students, it’s important to familiarise yourself and your child with the bus route and identify stops closest to your home so they know where the bus will pick up from in the morning and where to get off at the end of the day,” Minister Fitzharris commented.

Minister Fitzharris suggested a few simple safety tips for children to remember include:

• When waiting for your bus to arrive make sure you stand back from the kerb.
• Once it stops enter the bus in a single file. The bus should also be exited in a single file.
• Do not cross the road until the bus has gone.
