As two evil sisters prepare to conquer the land, two renegades, Eric the Huntsman, who previously aided Snow White in defeating Ravenna, and his forbidden lover, Sara, set out to stop them.
I get that there is a need by film studios to create the next big movie franchise, but they could have left this one alone, I’m pretty sure nobody would have mourned the missed opportunity, though the love conquers all message was kind of nice. After all Kristen Stewart wasn’t even given the briefest of cameos, she might not be the best of actresses but she did play Snow White back in 2012 and then the filmmakers could have padded the film’s run time out to two hours (though if I remember correctly there was three Snow White Movies released around the same time that year and then there was the scandal involving Stewart and Rupert Sanders the previous film’s director which led to her being dropped from the sequel). It that was kind of interesting that the filmmakers where in at least in part inspired by the character of Elsa from Frozen with Emily Blunt’s character Freya the ice queen. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again it’s great to see Australians doing great things in Hollywood but the second eldest Hemsworth brother Chris didn’t given best of performances.
My first thoughts when I saw that Rob Brydon and Nick Frost (who was reprising his role from the original film) where cast as dwarves was that so I take it…. Warwick Davis, Martin Klebba and Verne Troyer were all busy? It should also be noted that Sheridan Smith and Alexandra Roach who where cast as female dwarves are both over 5 feet tall. Now granted taller actors have been cast to play shorter roles most notably in my mind was for the hobbits during the Lord of the Rings Trilogy but for those of you who might of forgotten back in 2012 Snow White and The Huntsman was met with a certain amount of controversy because most of the dwarfs weren’t played by actual dwarfs and at the time Warwick Davis compared this to if someone attempted to “black up” a white actor for a role as a black character. Now I know that the bandwagon has long since rolled on but when you get down to it these movies where based on the source material of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
Judging by this lacklustre offering first time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is really going to have redeem himself especially considering that he is currently attached to direct the reboot of Highlander, especially considering with Highlander he is going to be expected to bring a decent action sequence to the screen with Highlander.
